My internet is slow what is causing this?

Many factors can affect your speed, such as using your connection during peak times versus off peak times, distance from the mast and even weather conditions. Similar to almost all home broadband services, Ripplecom broadband is a shared service, and the speed is up to two or eight Mb.

You can gauge your current speed by running a speed test by visiting one of the many speed test sites such as http://www.speedtest.net. If you internet is excessively slow all the time please contact the support team so they can trouble shoot any potential issues. In some cases your wireless router may affect your speed if your connection with your wireless router is poor and can only sustain a 1Mbps link, if this is the case try moving closer or bypassing your router and checking your speeds again.

We will also limit your connection for unpaid bills, please call or email accounts to settle your account before we turn back on your service.

My Broadband is not working, what should I do?

The first thing to do if your broadband is not working is to restart you PC and router. You can restart your router by disconnecting the power connection from the back of the router.

If this does not work you need to reboot Ripplecom's installed equipment, at the point where the cable enters the building there is a small unit with 3 connections. The 3 connections are the outdoor cable, the indoor cable, and a power supply, please disconnect the power supply and leave disconnected for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds reconnect the power supply and also check to make sure all connection are secure in their sockets. If the above does not work please contact the support desk for further assistance.

NB: If your router or our equipment has a reset button please do not press it as it will remove any settings that are currently on the device and they will have to be set up again

What is my Wireless password?

Your wireless password is set on your router, Ripplecom does not set these unless you are using a Ripplecom router. To find your wireless password you can sign into you router to find out how to do this, please refer to your router manual for further information on how to do this.

Is my Internet connection suitable for gaming?

Yes you can game online with your Ripplecom connection, in some cases you may need additional settings in place for the best experience gaming. If you are having issues playing games online please contact the support desk for advice.

What kind of support do you provide?

We provide support by phone and email. Our support desk is open on Monday – Friday from 9.00am until 5.30pm and you can email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Can I use a wireless router?

Yes, a wireless router can be used with our service. When choosing a wireless router it is important that you get the correct type, some routers are designed to work with an ADSL service and these differ from the type needed for a Ripplecom connection.

The type of router needed is commonly referred to as a Cable Router. If you were provided with IP settings when you installation was done, then these setting need to be entered into your router as STATIC IP SETTINGS, please refer to your router manual on how to do this. If no details were supplied then use DYNAMIC IP SETTINGS.

The support desk will try to help you but please bear in mind each router needs to be set up differently and the support staff will only be able to provide very basic information such as your IP settings.

Ripplecom now supply Routers, please contact our sales team for pricing.

What would cause me to break the Acceptable Usage Policy?

The Acceptable Usage Policy can be broken by a user excessively downloading excessive use of P2P programs, excessive emailing such as bulk mailing, a virus may also cause a breach of the Acceptable Usage Policy.

What will happen if I break the Acceptable Usage Policy?

If you break the Acceptable Usage Policy your connection may be limited or cut-off. If this happens a member of the support team will try to contact you and let you know so that the issue can be resolved.

Can I use P2P programs?

P2P programs are programs such as Utorrent, Azureus, Limewire and Frostwire, there are many more programs besides these which would be classed as a P2P program. Yes, you can use these programs with Ripplecom's service but we do ask that you limit the bandwidth, the number of connections and how often you use these programs. We ask you to do this as a P2P program left running in its native state can open up 1000's of connections to the internet at one time to download a file and this can very quickly break the Acceptable Usage Policy as it can affect other users on the same access point trying to use our service.

By default most P2P programs will start up with your computer and work in the background quietly using your bandwidth. To limit the connections and bandwidth please see the help section of your program or the information can be found on the many user forums dedicated to P2P.

Is there a cap on my download?

Yes, there is a monthly usage cap for residential products that defines the amount of data you can use in a month without incurring additional charges. This size of this cap is dependent upon the product you subscribe to. The usage cap is measured on a calendar month basis.

What happens if I exceed my usage cap?

If you exceed your usage cap you will incur additional usage charges, Additional usage is measured in 10Mb units and each 10Mb unit is 1 cent (€0.01). Additional usage will appear on your invoice and the date that you incurred this usage will be indicated.

Setting Up Your IP Address in Windows Vista

To set-up a Static IP address on Windows Vista

TCP/IP defines the language that your computer uses to communicate with other computers. We recommend using automated Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to automatically assign Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to the computers on your network, if your network supports it. If you use DHCP, then you don't have to change your settings if you move your computer to another location, and DHCP doesn't require you to manually configure settings such as Domain Name System (DNS) and Windows Internet Name Service (WINS).

  • Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking “Network and Internet”, clicking “Network and Sharing Center”, and then clicking “Manage network connections”.
  • Right-click the connection that you want to change, and then click “Properties”. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  • Click the Networking tab. Under This connection uses the following items, click either “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” or “Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)”, and then click “Properties”.
  • To specify IPv4 IP address settings, do one of the following:
    • To obtain IP settings automatically, click “Obtain an IP address automatically”, and then click “OK”.
    • To specify an IP address, click “Use the following IP address”, and then, in the “IP address”, “Subnet mask”, and “Default gateway” boxes, type the IP address settings.
  • To specify IPv6 IP address settings, do one of the following:
    • To obtain IP settings automatically, click“Obtain an IPv6 address automatically”, and then click “OK”.
    • To specify an IP address, click “Use the following IPv6 address”, and then, in the “IPv6 address”, “Subnet prefix length”, and “Default gateway” boxes, type the IP address settings.
  • To specify DNS server address settings, do one of the following:
    • To obtain a DNS server address automatically, click “Obtain DNS server address automatically”, and then click “OK”.
